Christmas Work In Progress

Tinkering with some bits this Christmas Eve has produced this mini, kitbashed from the Reclusiam Command Squad Chaplain (which GW really need to release on it's own now) I present a plastic Death Company Chaplain who will be accompanied by a slightly kitbashed Sanguinary Priest - once I figure out how best to fix the awful feathered collar on that mini. Any way, I digress here's some photos:

Merry Christmas, I hope Santa is good to everyone this year!

40mm Hasslefree Artemis - Update

Having layered up the bronze plate on the mini I set about adding a chained horse motif to Artemis' shield. Her helmet plume has been highlighted up as well so I'll be approaching the leather sandals and straps next.

The bluing of her sword's blade is an unintentional lighting effect rather than paintwork.

40mm Hasslefree Artemis

Following on from last night's post I've finished blocking in the base layers and begun to add more definition to the leather, bronze plate and horse hair so I can begin highlighting.

Looking through my drawer of decal sheets this morning I found a very cool 'chained stallion head' crest on a Games Workshop Imperial Knight sheet which I think will be perfect for Artemis shield :).

Something completely different...

After painting all that metal and facial hair, I thought I'd do something totally different. Inspired somewhat by the acquisition of some Arena Rex Kickstarter goodies I turned to the hobby cupboard of doom and dug out a mini I've owned since around 2007 I think. She's a gorgeous 40mm sculpt from Hasslefree Miniatures and there's very, very little armour in sight...

I'm still blocking in the base layers at the moment though her skin has had an initial shade and resetting layer applied. Being used to working in 28mm scale, it's a little bit of a challenge to work such a large area of skin but it's nice to flex the painting muscles every once in a while...

Commission - Dwarf Hammerers - Update

A little freehand and non-metallic metal work on the banner designed to tie the unit in with King Belegar and the Runelord (which went to the same client) :

Time to finish these little chaps up and get them of to their owner I think!

Commission - Dwarf Hammerers

Whew! It's a bit dusty in here as I've not been around for quite a while. I started studying a degree back in September which has eaten up quite a lot of time that was spent painting but it'll be worth it in four years time. I started working on this commission back in August but as I said, hobby time has had to play second fiddle until recently (and will go back to doing next semester). Anywho, here's some photos of what I've been doing:

The bases on the 'troops' are still being worked on (hence the untidiness) but will be finished shortly and the command group are receiving some extra detailing to set them apart from their fellows:

The bases on the command group are still in their initial stages as they're still being handled quite a lot. I'm just beginning to work on the non-metallic metal detail on the banner at the moment.

Ghazgkull Thraka Commission - Complete

Ghazzy in all his terrifying glory. I didn't add a lot of damage or chipping to the scheme so as not to overwhelm the details.

Also the base remains plain as the client will be basing all his Orks together.

Ghazghull Thraka Commission

Nearly done, just a few details to finish up and 'Da Prophet of Da Great Waaagh' will be ready to lead his warbands across the stars.

Scions of the Ancestor Gods

Recently finished up Dwarf King Belegar Ironhammer and a Runelord... These were a real treat to paint up to a high standard.

Imperial Fist Chaplain - Commission Paint

Following on from the Primarch responsible for the creation of the Chaplains of the Adeptus Astartes comes this fellow who I've been commissioned to paint up as an Imperial Fist:

Lorgar Aurelian Primarch of the XVII Legiones Astartes

Well, it's been a long old slog but I think I've produced something I can be proud of:

I had originally envisaged portraying the Golden One during the vicious battle in the Urgall Depression on Isstvan V but part way through painting him decided that as I'd painted him in the crimson of the heretic placing him during the Shadow Crusade would be more fitting.

I can't remember if I've mentioned in a previous post or not but Lorgar is the first Primarch I've painted and I'm actually really glad I started with him. The simple lines of the mini allowed me to be able to get to grips with working at a larger than normal scale as well as the opportunity to try out some new metallic techniques and recipies.

Of course now I've painted one, I want to paint more and next up will be Horus Lupercal. After him, well there's another 16 to go...

Araloth 'Corrupted'

I picked up the new Wood Elves Araloth mini from GW Ness earlier on and after a little thought decided to use him to crete a Lord/Hero/Battle Standard Bearer for my Dark Elves.

It'll be a little while before he sees paint as I'm still planning out the army but I'm happy with the conversion.

Lost to the Nails and the Crimson Path - World Eaters Red Butchers Devoured - Completed

Got this fantastic Forge World mini finished up this afternoon. Aside from something fun to paint it's also my entry into a painting challenge entitled 'tooth and claw' at my local GW store...

After some thought I decided to use a little weathering powder and some Blood for the Blood God to dirty him up a little and make him a little more 'realistic'. I don't often weather mini's but it seemed wrong not to weather this one as I envisaged him in the midst of the battle for the Urgall depression on Istvaan V so he wouldn't be clean and shiny.

Back on the Hobby Wagon...

It's been a wee while since I properly updated so here's what I've been up to this month.

The week before last saw a fairly speedy paint job on this Primaris Lightning Strike Fighter for my Mechanicum army:

I've also made a little progress getting Lorgar ready to paint:

Finally I've got some paint on one of the awesome World Eaters Red Butchers Devoured mini's from Forge World:
